Karen Keene

 Karen’s professional experience spans more than 28 years as the senior marketing executive and public policy expert for international and regional law firms. She has led multi-faceted teams in client development, strategic planning, branding, external affairs, and media relations.

Karen is the Founder and Chief Strategic Advisor of ATHENA Orlando Women’s Leadership, Inc. She launched the first ATHENA leadership luncheon hosted by honorary chair, Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs in 2012.  The same year they established the “ATHENA Fellowship” endowed scholarship at the UCF Foundation that benefits female graduate students and is currently valued at approximately $150,000.

She served on the ATHENA International Board of Directors for six years. During her tenure, she worked with fellow board members to create the national license for the ATHENA NextGen program that was piloted in Central Florida in 2014.

Karen was recognized as the 2018 Business Leader of the Year by i4 Business magazine; “Woman of the Year” in 2017 by Orange Appeal magazine; and received the 2016 Summit Award from the Central Florida Women’s Resource Center.

She served as co-chair of Women United of the Heart of Florida United Way in 2019, as well as the Board of Directors of the Orlando Chamber of Commerce. She also served as  Chair of the Legal Marketing Association, President of the Society for Marketing Professional Services, and President of the Florida Public Relations Association.

She received a B.A. in Organizational Communications in 1993 from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida.
